Why Professionals Rely on Okemall
Energy is measured in dramatically different units depending on the field — and the scales span more than 19 orders of magnitude. A physicist works in electronvolts and joules. Your electricity bill arrives in kilowatt-hours. A heating engineer sizes furnaces in BTU, a gas supplier bills in therms, and a nutrition label counts kilocalories. Converting across these systems by hand — especially between tiny electronvolts and massive megawatt-hours — is where expensive mistakes happen. Okemall eliminates the guesswork.
With standardized precision, a zero-friction interface and complete privacy by design, it is the fastest way to move between any two energy measurements with total confidence — professional-grade utility, made effortless.
Students & Physicists
Convert joules, electronvolts and calories for physics, chemistry and engineering coursework in seconds.
Homeowners & Energy Savers
Decode electricity bills in kWh, compare appliance ratings and estimate running costs instantly.
Engineers & HVAC Techs
Switch between BTU, therms and kilowatt-hours for heating, cooling and electrical load calculations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you convert.
Is the Okemall Energy Converter free to use? ▾
Yes — completely. The tool is 100% free with unlimited conversions. No subscriptions, no registration, and no hidden fees of any kind.
Is my data secure when using this tool? ▾
Absolutely. Every conversion is calculated locally in your browser with JavaScript. Your input values are never sent to, stored on, or logged by our servers.
Which energy units does the converter support? ▾
Eleven units, including Joules (J), Kilojoules (kJ), Calories (cal), Kilocalories (kcal), Watt-hours (Wh), Kilowatt-hours (kWh), Megawatt-hours (MWh), Electronvolts (eV), British Thermal Units (BTU), foot-pounds (ft·lb), and therms.
How accurate are the energy conversions? ▾
Conversions use internationally standardized factors — e.g., 1 calorie = 4.184 J (exact), 1 kWh = 3.6 MJ, and 1 electronvolt = 1.602176634 × 10⁻¹⁹ J (exact, per the 2019 SI redefinition) — displayed to 6 significant digits, suitable for academic and professional applications.
What is the difference between a calorie and a kilocalorie? ▾
A small calorie (cal) is the energy needed to raise 1 gram of water by 1°C — just 4.184 J. A food Calorie (Cal, with a capital C) is actually a kilocalorie: 1,000 small calories, or 4,184 J. Nutrition labels always mean kilocalories — so a 250-Calorie snack equals 250 kcal, or about 1,046,000 J.
What is the difference between kW and kWh? ▾
They measure different things. Kilowatts (kW) measure power — the rate of energy use — while kilowatt-hours (kWh) measure energy — the total amount consumed. A 2 kW heater running for 3 hours uses 6 kWh. This converter handles energy units (kWh, J, BTU, cal…); for power units (kW, W, hp), use the Okemall Power Converter.
Can I use it on my mobile phone or tablet? ▾
Yes. The converter is fully responsive and optimized for all screen sizes — iPhone, Android, tablet and desktop — with no app download required.
Is there a limit on how many conversions I can perform? ▾
None. There are no daily limits, usage caps, or rate restrictions. Convert as many values as you need, as often as you need.
